Unique décor, unusual dimensions, indoor/outdoor, furniture, stair railings, fencing and more - whether you want a single piece or an entire room we can build it for you. We aim to offer exceptional handcrafted workmanship at truly affordable prices.
To finish or not to finish, that is the question...
Cedar is a beautiful, aromatic, creamy light wood which can vary in shade. You have several options when it comes to the finish of your furniture.
- Leave it natural. If left outdoors, sunlight will change the color of the wood to a light silver-gray. Indoors, it will lighten to a golden yellow shade over time. Our unfinished furniture is thoroughly sanded. You may choose to finish it yourself, or we will finish it for you at an additional charge.
- You may also choose a light coat of clear varnish which will highlight the wood's natural grain and knots. Our prices for finished furniture reflect your cedar furniture sanded but unfinished. We can rough sand your furniture for a more natural rustic look or fine sand it, the choice is yours. You may also choose to finish it yourself or we will finish it for you at an additional charge.
- Your furniture can be stained to match your personal décor.

You can spend a small fortune on beautiful custom wood furniture - we just think you shouldn't have to. Our philosophy is simple. We want you to be pleasantly surprised by the quality for the price, not surprised at the price for the quality. You are our best advertisement, and your home is our showroom. We take great pride in our furniture and we know you will as well.
When shopping for cedar wood furniture, make sure you compare "apples to apples". The thickness of posts and spindles can vary greatly by manufacturer and price.

At the time of your inquiry we'll let you know exactly when we can ship your items. We are increasing our inventory so that you can choose a piece of furniture we have in stock, or you always have the option to order your furniture to suit your personal preferences such as texture, base color and of course size. There is no automatic surcharge for special orders (but obviously furniture that requires a substantial increase in wood or construction time will result in a custom price quote). In most cases we will have your furniture ready within one week, depending on the amount of labor involved in fulfilling your order.
In some cases, your furniture is still standing in the forest. Cedar grows in swampy conditions, making it resistant to nature's natural thinning process of a forest via fire, insects or rot. Here at Backwoods Casual we actually wander around the woods on our property and hand-select the cedar trees we use to craft your furniture. When we choose a cedar tree we take into consideration its desirability and character - as well as the effect cutting that tree will have on the living forest. Thinning a forest greatly improves the health of the forest, allowing sun and other nutrients to nourish the remaining trees and make it a better place. This is important to us, and we hope it is to you as well.

Dressers and Chests
All solid wood (drawers are made of cedar too, no particleboard or chipboard anywhere).
All of the corners and legs are bonafide solid cedar logs. The drawers are double-faced for greater durability and balance.
Custom sizes are certainly available (including smaller top drawers)...
